Concession Policy, Coach Testing, and Parent Information
Ooltewah Youth Association Concussion Policy
(adopted 2/5/2014)
In accordance with Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 49 and Title 68, Chapter 55, relative to youth sports-related injuries, the Ooltewah Youth Association adopts the follow policy in regard to youth concussions:
1. Before anyone will be allowed to Coach any team associated with OYA they must complete a basic concussion recognition safety course. Training can be
completed online
.
2. A copy of training certification by each Coach, head or assistant, must be presented to OYA for league record keeping. Certification will remain valid for a period of one year.
3. A concussion and head injury
information sheet
must be reviewed annually by all youth athletes and an athlete's parent or guardian. The
information sheet
must be signed and returned by the youth athlete and the youth athlete’s parent or guardian, prior to the youth athlete's initiating practice or competition.
4. Coach training certification and signed Youth Athlete/Parent Information sheets will remain on file at OYA for a period of three years.
5. Any youth athlete who shows signs, symptoms and behaviors consistent with a concussion must be immediately removed from practice or play for evaluation by league official, coach or other designated person.
6. A youth athlete who has been removed from play shall not return to the practice or competition during which the youth athlete suffered, or is suspected to have suffered, a concussion and not return to play or participate in any supervised team activities involving physical exertion, including games, competitions or practices, until the youth athlete is evaluated by a health care provider and receives written clearance from the health care provider for a full or graduated return to play. This shall not apply if there is a legitimate explanation other than a concussion for the signs, symptoms or behaviors observed.
7. Medical expenses associated with concussion treatment or evaluation will be paid for by youth athlete’s parents or guardian.
